Bistrot Massilia

4965 Valley View
Yorba Linda, CA 92886
(714) 993-1681

General:

This is a hidden gem in Yorba Linda. I am glad that this place is in my neighborhood.  For dinner service, they serve authentic French cuisine (chef/owner is French) with a Mediterranean touch.  They do a rotation of menu and focus only on selected items.  All food, classic and contemporary, that I had here for dinner have been superb.  For brunch/lunch service, there is a heavier accent of American touch as they try to accommodate to the locals.  However, you can still find French classics like crepes or Croque Monsieur or quiche.  On a side note, pricing is also un-French-restaurant.  It is more in line of what you expect from corporate places like The Cheesecake Factory (the price, not the food quality!). Onion soup: deep yet light broth from the stock and onion backbone. Natural sweetness with a kick of acidity. Topped with cheese on a whole toast which replaces croutons. Divine. A 5 stars place.

Details:

Pate de La Mer: egg flat pasta, seafood cream sauce, generous seafood serving that includes mussel, clam, shrimp, scallop and smoked salmon.. A touch of sliced button mushroom. Exquisite. Five stars.

Croque Monsieur: delicious cheesiness and creaminess covering ham and mushroom, blanketed by properly thin crepe, and topped by runny over easy egg. My perennial lunch/brunch favorite here. Five minus stars.

Quiche Lorraine: dominant cheese and egg creaminess, light ham smokiness, nutmeg finish. Delicious. Four and a half stars.

Cauliflower Soup (du jour): cauliflower, cinnamon, apple, light cream. Seductively sweet with strong cinnamon note contrasted with apple brightness and acidity. Creaminess from cream and cauliflower bring all together with the body. 5 stars.

La Moules Provencal: earthiness of clams , clove, and rosemary are contrasted with acidity from diced tomato and Sauvignon blanc reduction. Garlic, olive oil undertone in the touch of creamy broth. Grassy nose from rosemary and Sauvignon Blanc
with a touch of uplifting nose from parsley. Came with home made garlic-and-parsley-fortified, err.., freedom fries. This can be ordered without the fries as an appetizer (suggested). 5-

Pate Forestiere: delicious egg linguini. Cream sauce with a strong cognac reduction. Ham, chicken, mushroom. Overtones from mushroom and parsley. Chicken breast was cut too big and became quite distracting. 4+
