General:
This is really a nice little place.
Food is good. The place is clean, the ambiance is relaxing with
earth color paint that creates a feeling that you are inside an adobe-style
house. No schizophrenic array of bold colors.
Complimentary chips: fried and fragrant. It doesn't come with salsa but with a delicious red mole sauce: The mole's flavor profile is sweet with a contrasting and depth of coffee bitterness. Shredded string cheese added. Delicious. 4+ stars.
We ordered only one dish. Tentacion is a plate for 2 that represents as the house's tour de cuisine.
Chorizo: fragrant fatty meat. Sour and salty. Chili oil finish. 4 stars.
Cecina: bbq style pork. Tender. Fragrant. Herbaceous chili oil. Mild salty. Quite similar flavor profile with the chorizo yet leaner. 4 stars.
Tasajo: grilled beef. Simple salt rub. Gamey. A bit dry. 3+ stars.
Molotes: corn tortilla. Fragrant maize. Coffee-fortified black bean spread. A bit flat by itself (3.5 stars), but add the guacamole and it was delicious. 4 stars
Quesadillas: folded fried skin, looked like empanada. Fragrant yet a bit oily. Cheese inside. The same black bean spread outside. 3.75 stars by itself. Added guacamole here, too, and it became 4+ stars.
Memela: floured-skin croquette. A similar structure was dim sum's ham sui gok. Potato and minced chorizo. Very fragrant. Same seasoning with bbq pork but with a lighter intensity. 4+
Chicken Taquito: crispy roll. Chicken and cheese filling. Fragrant chicken overtone. 4 stars by itself. Added guacamole and it became 4+ stars.
String cheese: shredded over a bet of shredded lettuce. Supposedly serving as a salad? It was just shredded string cheese over shredded lettuce, what rating could I give?
Guacamole: here it was, the superstar today. This simple guacamole was very delicious. Very fresh. Avocado and cilantro with a touch of green chili. Mild salty, no sweetness or sourness whatsoever. However, this purity proved to be very delicious. One of the best guacamole I have ever tasted. 5- stars.
I liked the food here and will go back to order their black and red moles. I have a feeling that I might upgrade my rating once I taste the black mole.
